Accountants for Freelancers
Why work freelance?
In recent years, with the development in remote working technology and in the use of the Internet, it is now far easier to work ‘virtually’ for a number of different clients than it would have been even five years ago. If you are considering becoming a freelancer then this section dedicated to freelancers will provide you with all the information you will need to make an informed decision.
There are many reasons why people choose to work freelance. As a freelancer you have the option to take on as many clients, and as many projects as you like – with total flexibility in your business structure. All manner of freelance business types have sprung up over the last few years, from the more traditional domains of freelance writing, journalism or photography to the more recent freelance sales and marketing staff, web developers, project managers, administration services providers and so on.
As well as being able to work very flexibly, freelancers also have the ability to command much higher hourly rates of pay than permanent employees – especially if they are prepared to pout in the extra hours. But this is not unreasonable, bearing in mind the lack of holiday and sick pay, and the other additional benefits which are lost when moving from permanent employment to freelance work!
One of the key challenges when deciding to go freelance is to decide on your business model. The two obvious options are sole trader or limited company – and there are pros and cons to each.
If you are thinking of freelancing through your own limited company, please read our new straightforward guide on How to Freelance through your own Limited Company. You'll be surprised how little time it takes and just how easy it is.
