According to contracting industry expert Gerry McLaughlin of, contractors could be looking forward to ‘a bumper year’ in 2011. In a recent comment, he stated that the freelancer market was the first to pick up, and it was encouraging for contractors that there are already signs of a skills shortage emerging in the UK so soon after the recession – adding, “The big banks and financial institutions are now competing for IT staff and contractors again.” With more contract roles emerging in the IT sector, contractors should hope to see better chances of winning the contract they require, and potentially better rates of pay as well.
