According to a recent survey by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), private sector businesses will continue to employ new staff over the coming year. Around 23% of the companies surveyed said they would take on more permanent staff members and, most encouragingly for contractors, 32% said they would be increasing their non-permanent staff numbers. Commenting on these findings, the REC’s chief executive Kevin Green said there is ‘scope for cautious optimism’ in the UK jobs market, adding, “The increasing employer confidence is a good sign and the feedback from professional recruiters confirms that fluidity is returning to many sectors of the labour market. Businesses are looking to build greater flexibility into their resourcing which will provide temporary and contract work opportunities.”
