In his weekly blog, Mark Easton – the BBC’s home editor – pointed out that what he refers to as ‘knowledge services’ represent 68% of what the UK now sells to the world. He went on to highlight that, although the UK’s universities and its business services sector are world class, the UK still ‘needs to produce the right kind of knowledge workers, to recognise the skills and abilities that will be most sought after by the global economy’. All of which gives a clear indication that contractors could well become a core element of the UK’s future ‘knowledge export’ economy!
