The Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 are expected to involve more than 50,000 contracts, worth about £6bn and ranging from construction, engineering, IT and manufacturing to creative, merchandising and retail. Contracts will be available at or near the 34 venues around the country, all of which means that contractors have a huge opportunity to secure this potentially lucrative and high profile work. To help them with this process, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will be running an online advice seminar on July 27th at 6pm
The ‘webinar’ will run live and then be available for free download afterwards, but contractors have been advised to register in advance if they want to take part in it live. Commenting on this move, an HMRS representative said, “The seminar will cover issues such as talking to a bank about financing, ensuring that the right systems are in place to comply with procurement policies and how firms go about making a bid for an Olympic contract.” The webinar will also provide information on any tax obligations and entitlements that may apply to contractors.
