The April Report on Jobs from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG brings good news for contractors, showing that freelancers’ hourly rates, as well as permanent salaries, increased during the month – with hourly pay rates for contract staff increasing at the fastest pace for just over two years. It also highlighted further marked increases in both permanent and contract staff appointments during April, with contract staff vacancies increasing at the sharpest rate since January 2008.

Kevin Green, the REC’s Chief Executive, stated, “This Report on Jobs highlights continued growth in both contract and permanent employment”, while Bernard Brown, Partner and Head of Business Services at KPMG commented, “The latest figures show that the UK jobs market is continuing on the road to recovery.”

The Report on Jobs provides the most comprehensive guide to the UK labour market drawing from original survey data provided by recruitment consultancies.
