IT contractors will be pleased to learn that a new report from global IT research firm, Gartner, has shown that the public cloud services market is set to grow over the coming the year.
‘Forecast Overview: Public Cloud Services, Worldwide, 2011-2016’, revealed that the cloud computing market is set to grow by 18.5% during the next 12 months, with Garter predicting that this will total $131 billion worldwide, up from $111 billion in 2012.
Contractors with skills in cloud computing will be interested to hear that the report predicts that investment in this area will reach a total of $677 billion over the following three years.
North America is the largest region in the cloud services market, accounting for 59% of all new spending on cloud services from 2013 through 2016, while Western Europe remains the second-largest region and will account for 24% of all new spending during the same time period.
Research director at Gartner, Ed Anderson, said, “The continued growth of the cloud services market will result from the adoption of cloud services for production systems and workloads, in addition to the development and testing scenarios that have led as the most prominent use case for public cloud services to date.”
He added, “Evidence of this growth is found in the increasing demand for cloud services from end-user organisations, met by an increased supply of cloud services from suppliers.”
