Lack of skills in special effects and gaming industries could benefit contractors

According to the findings of a recent report titled “Independent Review of Skills for the UK Video Games and Visual Effects Industries”, there are not enough graduates and students in the UK with the right entry level skills to meet expected demand over the coming years. In fact, the report goes so far as to say that it’s not just the students who do not have these vital skills, it’s the teachers and lecturers who are also lacking in the necessary technical ability.

The report, which was commissioned by Culture Minister Ed Vaizey and published by NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), comes as very good news for IT contractors who specialise in this area, as they could be the solution to addressing this serious skills shortage in the UK’s gaming and special effects industry.
