In a recent interview with the Sunday Telegraph, BP’s head of North Sea Oil Operations Trevor Garlick said that the company is having problems recruiting enough people to fuel expansion of its operations in the North Sea. Apparently, it’s having ‘a real issue’ finding engineers with the right skills to fill 150 to 300 new jobs it’s created – something which comes as great news for oil and gas contractors.

BP has just made a £3bn investment into the Schiehallion and Loyal oilfields, just to the west of the Shetland Islands, and according to Mr Garlick, there are another 450m barrels of oil waiting to be extracted from thesefields. He also mentioned that the area is seen as so important by other parts of the company that they regularly cherry-pick the most talented engineers to work in other parts of the company.
