According to the December 2010 Bank of Scotland Report on Jobs, demand for IT contractors in Scotland increased by 12% month on month, coming third overall in the ‘demand table’ and also outpacing IT contractor demand across the UK as a whole. This increase led to a demand which was faster than candidate availability, which also led to an increase in rates of pay, which grew at their fastest rate since May 2008. Chief Economist at Bank of Scotland Donald MacRae confirmed that the Scottish labour market is at an eight-month high and almost in line with the rest of the UK, commenting, “The turnaround in the Scottish labour market first identified in October continues, led by faster vacancy growth.”
