According to a recently-published report by Gartner, worldwide spending on IT is set to reach $3.6 trillion (£2.3 trillion) this year – something which can only be good news for IT contractors. The figures will mean an increase of 5.1% on 2010, when a total of $3.4 trillion was spent. This continues an upward trend seen over recent years with the $3.4 trillion spent in 2010 representing a 5.4% increase on 2009 levels. Richard Gordon, research vice-president at Gartner, commented, “As well as a fundamental enabler of cost reduction and cost optimisation, investment in IT is seen increasingly as an important element in business growth strategies. As the global economy repairs itself in coming years, we are optimistic about continued healthy spending on IT.”
