Contractors seeking IT roles have been offered encouragement by a new labour market report from the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC). This new report shows that demand and supply for ICT labour and skills increased again over the last three months, with labour demand rising by 4% during the last quarter, and skills demand increasing by 10%. As a result, there are now 86,000 job vacancies in the UK.
Commenting on these findings, which show that ‘demand within the sector continues to grow and return to health’ Jeff Brooks, chair of REC Technology, also said, “At ground level, members say that things have improved markedly from the low points of late 2008 and early 2009. IT systems are clearly seen as tools that can help drive growth and help reduce cost across the enterprise and we expect to see this growth maintained.”
Earlier in the week, the REC and KPMG jointly reported that the number of temp and permanent appointments increased during May.
